the basic message #E311

In my travels, I listen to quite a bit of Christian radio, particularly out of New Orleans. Most of the programs are good and provide some sort of spiritual uplifting during my day, but there is one major exception: Grant Storms' "Reformer" broadcast. I've been listening to his program for several years, mostly to remind me of the thousands of mean-spirited, hate-filled people in the world who call themselves Christians. On his program today, he had another "Reverend" sharing the airwaves with him that went off on a diatribe about executing an Iraqi by stating that we should "behead the guy and pour pig's blood on him and videotape the whole thing". Is that the Christian perspective on dealing with enemies?
Romans 12
19Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath,
for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the
Lord. 20On the contrary:
"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something
to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."21Do
not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
It would seem that the two "reverends" would be familiar with Holy
Scripture.
Grant Storms is a pot-stirring radical that puts a daily focus on the sins of everyone else, yet allows himself and his flock to cleanly avoid any introspective exercises on themselves. I won't stoop to Storm's level and gossip about his past, simply because I have no documented information to support that. Storms never lets something as "trivial" as the truth stop him from slandering people, but I'll take the high road. Today's program was classic Storms: 2 days after the elections, he's still talking about the elections. If his candidates of choice had lost, I would have certainly expected him to be a bad loser and talk for weeks about how the South will rise again. But interestingly, most of his candidates won, yet instead of being a gracious winner, Storms has nothing better to do than rehash the same tired slant he's promoted for months. He's predicted doom and gloom for America if the "liberals" won, yet now that all of his conservative choices are returning to office or are about to take office, he lacks even the most basic grace to simply be happy and move on.
I called into the show today to simply inject some sort of reality to the ridiculous circus that he brings to the air each day. Storms, without knowing anything about me, has decided that I'm a liberal. That's interesting since he's defined a liberal as pro-choice, anti-gun, and pro-homosexuality. For the record, I'm own 6 guns, contribute heavily to a shelter for young women who keep their babies, and as far as being pro-homosexual, it might appear to Storms the hate-monger that I'm pro-homosexual, but the fact is, I try to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and I try to love everyone. To my knowledge, I don't associate with any gay people, but if I found out today that I do, I certainly wouldn't stop that association. As I talked with Storms on the air today, he ultimately decided that I'm not a Christian. Imagine that, a man that's never met me or even expressed any interest in knowing me can pronounce a judgment that only God himself can do. That's typical of the misguided, hate-filled approach that his man takes to the radio 5 days per week. If you'd like to learn how I feel about homosexuality, please go to: www.basicchristian.com/e269homosexuals.html
Storms favorite topic is homosexuals. I don't think I've ever seen anyone so preoccupied with gay people, and I've often challenged him on the air after he's made some of the most hateful comments I've ever heard. I will certainly acknowledge that the Word of God says that homosexuality is a sin. Grant E. Storms likes to kick it up a notch by regularly stating that it's an "abomination to God". The word "abomination" is mentioned 142 times in the King James Bible, and very few times is it connected with homosexuality. Storms might want to check the 11th chapter of Leviticus and learn that eating crawfish or crabs is also an abomination to God. Storms is the classic "homophobe" whose fears are usually unfounded. He and men like D. James Kennedy love to divert attention to homosexuality rather than deal with important issues in their own churches. Like what? Hate, for one. If either one of these men claim that they don't regularly espouse hatred, then they have never listened to their own programs.
The Reformer broadcast, thank God, is in a very small minority that seek to exclude people from the love of Jesus rather than include them. That's sad, and one day Grant will face a God that will have a long list of questions regarding Storm's actions in life. Oh yes, God is making my list too, and it might well be longer than Grant's list, but there's one big difference: I pray daily that God might open my eyes to his instructions. Grant, do you ever pray that God will illuminate your mind, or have you decided that you know everything?
