the basic message #E18

Luke 10:25-28

On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus.  “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”  “What is written in the Law?”  he (Jesus) replied.  “How do you read it?”  He (the expert) answered: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’, and , ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”  “You have answered correctly,”  Jesus replied.  “Do this and you will live.”

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, That whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

John 14:21

“Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me.  He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.”

1 John 1:6

If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

3 John 11

Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good.  Anyone who does what is good is from God.  Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.

Question:  We all have our ideas on what it takes to get to Heaven.  This week I’m sending this devotional to a small portion of subscribers to get your thoughts on salvation.  Many of us like to narrate the scriptures to help others understand what they mean.  Sometimes we’re right, sometimes not.

Please consider which 5 scriptures best describe the pathway to Heaven.  Let the scripture speak for itself and don’t add comments.  Just pretend that you’re emailing the 5 passages to a person that has a basic understanding of God and Jesus, but wants a written understanding to base their decision on.

After I assemble the data, I’ll write a basic report on what I received and send it out to all who participated.  This should be interesting and it should also be a good exercise to actually document what we believe. Thanks- John
